Who we Are

The goal of our organization is to eradicate the educational and healthcare disparities for foster and underserved youth and their families. Currently, ECOC’s main focus is Cinematique, anannual community event hosted to support foster families. Our goal continues to be scale-up the Cinematique event and host a projected 2,000 attendees who will receive access to the event’s resource providers. ECOC seeks to provide these families with invaluable community education and knowledge and access to invaluable resources, while simultaneously making the event interactive, fun, and memorable for the entire family.

ECOC also has initiatives in partnership with other nonprofits. Under the fiscal sponsorship of the Essex Community Outreach Corporation (ECOC), and in collaboration with the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, Urban Games has evolved into a free community health and play event filled with education and fun for the entire family.  Having served as a sponsor and fiscal sponsor for Urban Games since 2015, ECOC helped launch Urban Games as a separate, independent 501(c)(3) organization to enable its growth and service to other marginalized youth and underserved communities across the nation.

Our Goals

1. Outreach

Reach middle school and high school students in foster care and in need and their families and connect them with resources to encourage graduating from high school, pursuing higher education and good health using cinema as a fun, holiday attraction.

2. Engagement

Engage prospective foster parents, give them an opportunity to connect with current foster families and children, provide information about becoming a foster parent and connect with a community of support services available to them should they decide to foster.

3. Connection

Connect students as well as current and prospective foster families using cinema as a fun, holiday attraction and community among current and prospective foster families and resource providers.
